Welcome to the Ellis-Paquette Home Renovation.

We thought about buying a cool piece of property up the street, but decided that our existing property location was  better.  Plus it would be cheaper to stay here and remodel rather than rebuild.

Over the last 10 years we have replaced carpet with maple, added skylights and more windows, and tried every other "low budget" solution in the book to make a 1970 split level look more modern.    Unfortunately, despite these changes, it's still a dark, split level home that doesn't fit our lifestyle.   Part of the "problem" with light is that we have 9 Douglas firs,  all over 150 years old, very close to the house.  Unless they become diseased or pose a threat of landing on the house during a wind storm, we do not want to remove the trees.  They are too beautiful and a critical part of our environment.  This is the Pacific northwest, not Los Angeles.

The plan is:

  1. Level the stick-built barn (ie. deluxe dog house / tractor storage)
  2. Replace it with a "man room"  featuring an office/entertainment area that we can stay in during construction.
  3. Renovate the main house (we expect this to take 6-12months).

We'll post pictures soon, but for now, here are a list of documents we're working on:
